Human Computer Interaction
My focus is Human-Computer Interaction. Particularly I am interested in the system that can proactively assist users' decision making based not only on users' explicit input but also on users' non-verbal behavior (e.g., eye movements). Especially, I focus on how the system estimates users' internal states from gaze and changes action to users based on estimated internal states.

Tracking Subtle Facial Expression Changes for QOL monitoring
My research aims to estimate individuals' Quality of Life (QOL) by tracking changes in facial expressions in daily life. To capture natural daily expression changes, it is not sufficient to recognize only clearly expressed facial expressions, as has been the focus of conventional facial expression recognition studies. In stead, it is necessary to detect ambiguous and intermediate expressions as well.
In this work, we proposed a method for evaluating the degree of facial expression by comparing pairs of facial images. By constructing a personalized evaluation expression space based on an ordinal scale, the method enables to track of subtle intermediate facial expressions over time.
